About Me

Welcome to Guitar-Review dot info! My name is John and I’ve been playing musical instruments since I was 3. I’ve played violin, piano, trumpet, and guitar. I was in the Orchestra from elementary through high school, and took up guitar when I was a freshman. I took classical guitar performance as a college major for one year. I didn’t finish college, and went through many career paths before I started working with computers. When I was 25 I started building and repairing computers, and got into web site design and training. After working at a last ISP in the 90′s, I spend 10 years doing web development and IT products at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI. I’ve been working online for 15 years now, now I’m CEO of JTPratt Media.

From the age of 25 to 35 I really didn’t have much to do with music. At the prodding of my lovely wife, when I was 35 I got a guitar and an amp and set out to do what I’d never finished in my youth – starting a band that played out regularly. Now, 7 years later, I’ve played hundreds of gigs on stage in the local area – with quite a few different bands.

In the last 7 years I’ve gone through many “phases” of gear. At one time all my amps were Marshalls. I had a 2×12 combo and a half stack. I had a Carvin Legacy head for about a year as well. I’ve gone through so many guitars I don’t even know where to start. Ibanez, Gibson, Fender, Agile, Reverend, Electra, and more. Right now I’m kind of partial to my maple neck Telecaster.

I find that besides the guitar itself, the amp and effects lend the most to your tone. You’ll find a lot of my reviews are about effects or amps because of this. One of the worst things for a musician is finding (or figuring) out what works for you best. And the only way to get that is to try new gear all the time. You have to actually use it in a band, at gigs, on stage, and at home to find out. Because of this I’ve bought and sold countless things on ebay, Craigslist, classified ads, etc. I have many things I wouldn’t sell for anything now. But I have gone through the entire digital processor / modeling amp phase – POD on the floor, and the whole 9 years. Only to (years later) re-purchase another pedal board and go to a boutique tube amp. Now the only amps I currently own are built by Max Butler.

I started this site for other guitar enthusiasts so I could post the neat stuff I find related to guitars, bands, and music. I plan to post deals, reviews, videos, personal experiences, what I use and why…and more importantly I hope to build up a nice community of like-minded people where we can exchange ideas, tips, deals, and help in guitar, band, and music related matters.

I hope that you benefit in some small way by viewing my web site, and if you do please tell others about it. Also, feel free to leave comments on any page, join our community, and subscribe to our rss feed either by email or in your feed reader. If you’d like to talk to me directly about either the site or music stuff – please use my comment page!

Again – thanks for stopping by, and I hope you stay awhile and come back often!
