Guitar Biographies
Over the years I’ve read some great biographies and auto-biographies of guitar players, musicians, and bands. I’m going to review and recommend to you some of the best ones I’ve found on this page, and hopefully in return you’ll add some of your favorites to the list so I can make it even longer. As new ones come out I’ll add those as well. This is also going to be a great reference page if you are looking for the perfect gift idea for that guitar player or musician!
Ok, this isn’t the biography of a guitar god, but this is probably my favorite music biography of all time – the story of Jim Morrison and The Doors. It’s an incredible read by someone who was there for the entire time from when the Doors were playing little gigs in backyards, to their peak, and until Jim’s dying day in Paris. Danny Sugarman tells an absolutely incredible tale.

I think that The Hammer of the Gods probably ranks second in my list of band bios – and the story of Led Zeppelin is truly incredible. If you haven’t heard every last tidbit, right down do Jimmy Page’s 16 year old girlfriend, to the “fish” story, and the Aleister Crowley castle – you need to read this book!

The incredible story of Stevie Ray Vaugan or SRV, in incredible painstaking detail! Interviews with a virtual who’s who from his lifetime from his very first days with Mom, Dad, and brother Jimmie, to the time he played on stage with Hendrix and his brother – to his finally ‘making it’ when he first played Carnegie Hall in New York. It’s a shame that this lifelong alcoholic died such a short time after he cleaned up his act and was living a completely different lifestyle – while helping and teaching others to do the same.

You should really spend some time reading about the guitar legends that forged the way for all modern players as well:
